Badge Quest: Emergency Alerts · Effective October 22, 2026 · Developer: Grassquatch
The short version
- We collect only what the game needs: a nickname, the area you play in, and (if you turn it on) a push notification token.
- No ads. No tracking. No analytics SDKs. We never sell or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
- You can delete everything at any time from inside the app: Settings ▶ Account ▶ Delete My Account.
What we collect and why
| Data | Why | Shown to others? |
|---|---|---|
| Nickname / display name (2–12 characters) | Shown in the game and on the leaderboard | Yes, on the leaderboard, unless you choose “Hide me” |
| Home area: ZIP code and/or county, or the coordinates of “use my location” (stored rounded) | To tell whether an official alert's target area covered you, which is how you earn badges | Only your county and state, next to your leaderboard name |
| Last location (optional, off by default) | If you turn on “also send my location when I open the app,” so badges follow you when you travel. Only the latest point is kept; it is overwritten each time. | No |
| Push token (Apple Push Notification service device token, or a Web Push subscription on the web) | To send you a notification when you earn a badge | No |
| Your badge history (which alerts covered your area and when) | This is the game | Counts and badge icons on the leaderboard |
| A random account ID and access token | To sign in this device without a password | No |
We do not collect your name, email address, contacts, photos, or advertising identifier. The app has no account sign-up and no password. If you email support, we receive your email address and message, and we use them only to reply.
Where the data lives
Game data is stored on our game server (hosted with Fly.io in the United States). Our server reads public alert feeds from FEMA IPAWS and the National Weather Service. When you type a ZIP code or use your location, the server looks up the county with the public U.S. Census Bureau and FCC lookup services, sending only the ZIP code or coordinates. Push notifications are delivered by Apple (on iPhone), Google Firebase Cloud Messaging (on Android), or your browser vendor's push service (on the web).
Retention and deletion
We keep your data while your account is active. Delete My Account (Settings ▶ Account) immediately and permanently removes your server record, badges, leaderboard entry, saved locations, and push tokens, and clears the app's data on your device. Server logs that may contain a shortened account ID are kept for at most 30 days. You can also ask us to delete your data without the app by emailing support@grassquatch.com (see how to delete your account).
Children
The game is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.
Your rights
You can see your data in the app (and export it from Options ▶ Export), change your display name, hide yourself from the leaderboard, turn off notifications in your phone's settings, and delete everything at any time. Residents of places with additional privacy rights (for example California or the EU/UK) can contact us to exercise them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
